Dr. Hossam Badrawi’s Speech at the Opening of the Cardiology Conference at Kasr Al-Ainy, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Grand Nile Tower Hotel

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests,

My gratitude and affection to my friend and mentor, Dr. Galal El-Saeed, and my warm regards to the esteemed son, Prof. Dr. Hesham, Head of the Cardiology Department.

It is an honor for me to join you in the opening of this distinguished scientific conference.

Although my specialization is in obstetrics and gynecology, and my passion lies in public service, culture, and politics, I believe there is a deeper connection between the heart and woman that transcends the boundaries of medical specialties.

I asked myself: Does the heart have a memory?

The answer varies between science, literature, and philosophy.

In science,
Biologically, the heart does not possess memory as the brain does.
However, it is strongly affected by psychological and emotional states and retains a “physiological imprint” of experiences—like the quickening of its beat when we see someone we love, or when we remember a painful moment.
It has been scientifically proven that the nervous system surrounding the heart (known as the “heart brain”) contains a network of neurons that send signals to the brain and influence mood and emotions.
It is as if the heart has emotional memory, if not cognitive memory.

In philosophy and literature,
Yes, the heart is seen as a repository of emotional memories.
Hearts “remember” those they loved, those who hurt them, and those who passed by without offering peace.
Gibran Khalil Gibran says:
“The heart knows today what the mind missed yesterday.”
And the poet says:
“The heart remembers those it loved, even if distant…
And the eye tears up if it sees them or they drift away.”

In human understanding,
The heart is a symbol of emotions and sentiment.
When we say, “My heart still remembers her,” we do not mean the organ itself, but the emotional essence tied to her.

So yes… the heart does have memory, but not just of flesh and cells — of longing and yearning.

The heart, as we understand it today, is not merely a pump that circulates blood through the body.
It is the center of emotional expression, a mirror of the psychological state, and a silent partner in every moment of life — and a loud one in times of anxiety and stress.

And the woman…
That being governed by a brilliant cycle of hormones — not just physical triggers, but hidden dancers that affect mood, inner rhythm, and the very beat of the heart.

Estrogen, which grants a woman her femininity and tenderness, plays a vital role in protecting her heart from diseases.
And when its levels decline with age or in certain conditions, we witness how the rhythm of the heart itself changes — as if the body begins writing a new chapter in its inner story.

I see that the heart and woman engage in an ongoing silent dialogue —
A dialogue that holds science, poetry, and many secrets that we continue to uncover, day after day.

Therefore, when we study heart diseases, we must read the body with a broad human spirit —
To treat heartbeats not as mere numbers, but as living poems written in the language of hormones and emotions.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Let your hearts speak as your hands do in science.
Let them beat not only with blood, but with knowledge and love.
For in every heartbeat… lies a human story.

A salute to the heart of humanity… the heart of science… the heart of life.

Dr. Hossam Badrawi Delivers an Inspiring Lecture Titled “The Future of Humanity”

Upon the invitation of the Rotary Club of Katameya, Dr. Samia Sabry, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Katameya Golf Club, hosted a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Hossam Badrawi titled “The Future of Humanity.”

Dr. Badrawi began by emphasizing the role and significance of women, describing them as the foundation of life and the key to its continuity. He stressed the importance of recognizing women’s value and granting them the appreciation they truly deserve.

The Future of Humanity: A Scientific and Spiritual Perspective

Transitioning to the core theme of his lecture, Dr. Badrawi explained that the future of humanity has two fundamental aspects: scientific and spiritual. He asserted that this future relies on the ability of the human mind to comprehend it, particularly in light of the accelerating pace of civilizational progress.

He then delivered a fascinating presentation that traced the origin and evolution of the universe, illustrating the rapidity and patterns of its development. From there, he explored the evolution of civilizations, spanning from the dawn of humankind to the present day. He highlighted how, in the past, individuals lived and died within a single civilization cycle, whereas today, people witness multiple civilizational shifts within their lifetime.

Dr. Badrawi posed a compelling question: Are we truly prepared for a future where the cycles of life and their dynamics change annually? He expressed concern that not all people will possess the capacity to adapt, and that those who do will ultimately govern the rest. He warned that knowledge will equate to power, authority, and control, potentially leading to a society divided into masters and subordinates—where those who possess knowledge hold dominion over those who do not.

The Role of Future Generations in Shaping Tomorrow

Dr. Badrawi emphasized that future generations hold the key to keeping pace with the coming changes. However, they can only actively participate in shaping the future if they are properly equipped with knowledge and values.

As a society, we must foster creativity, critical thinking, skepticism, and research among young people, rather than compelling them to blind obedience, rigid traditions, or passive acceptance of information. This, he explained, requires a shift in parental mindset, urging parents to support their children with positivity and wisdom.

The Values That Young People Must Uphold

Dr. Badrawi addressed the moral and ethical values that young people should embrace, acknowledging their reservations about absolute values. He emphasized the need for society to agree on a core set of principles that we aspire to see reflected in future generations.

A Vision for Egypt’s Potential

Sharing his perspective on Egypt, Dr. Badrawi described it as a rich and resourceful nation with immense potential that, if managed wisely, could elevate Egypt to the status of a global power. However, he asserted that Egypt’s youth are its most valuable asset, and he strongly advocated for providing them with opportunities within their homeland so they do not seek them elsewhere.

The Power of Choice and the Need for Political Will

Dr. Badrawi concluded that the real challenge lies in choice. In nations plagued by ignorance and poverty, people are often incapable of making informed choices, leading them to elect the worst candidates or those who merely offer financial incentives.

He stressed that true change must come from the top down and called for Egypt’s intellectuals and experts to be actively involved in governance. He highlighted that no transformation can occur without political will, and that any change lacking shared values will not lead to genuine progress.

Dr. Badrawi urged everyone to embed these values within the youth through education, family influence, and media representation. He emphasized the importance of instilling national pride in young Egyptians, ensuring they recognize that Egypt is a great nation that deserves the best.

Dr. Badrawi’s lecture concluded with a round of applause from the audience, who expressed their gratitude and admiration for his insightful words.

The session was highly interactive, as members of the Rotary Club engaged Dr. Badrawi with questions on various topics. He responded patiently and appreciatively, fostering an enriching discussion.

At the end of the event, attendees eagerly approached Dr. Badrawi to sign copies of his books and take commemorative photographs with him.
