At the invitation of the Education First Foundation, chaired by Dr. Salma Bakry, Dr. Hossam Badrawi, Chairman of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee, participated today, Saturday, January 31, in the closing ceremony of the “Egypt Schools 2025” Competition, held at the theater of New Generation International School.

The ceremony was attended by 24 school principals, along with work teams from the winning schools totaling 120 participants, in addition to 108 male and female students from the “Ehna Masr 2026” Program.

At the beginning of the event, Dr. Mahmoud Hamza, Executive Director of the Education First Foundation, introduced Dr. Hossam Badrawi in a heartfelt address, describing him as a source of support, strength, and positive energy. He emphasized that Dr. Badrawi has taught those around him how to see beauty in things and how to disagree in pursuit of truth. He added: “If I call him a teacher of an entire generation, I would be doing him an injustice; if I call him a thinker or a politician, I would be doing him an injustice. He is a rare phenomenon that does not occur often… and for that, I present him by one name only: Hossam Badrawi.”

In his speech, Dr. Badrawi expressed his great happiness and admiration for what was presented during the ceremony, affirming that what he witnessed reflects a refined educational system that prioritizes human development above all else. He praised the efforts exerted by Dr. Salma Bakry, Dr. Mahmoud Hamza, and the entire team, which contributed to reaching this high level of quality, precision, and passion in the field of education.

Dr. Badrawi pointed out that passion goes beyond mere desire, as it means achieving goals with happiness, accomplishing success with joy, and always striving for what is better. He considered passion the true driving force behind any sustainable success.

He also extended his thanks and congratulations to teachers, administrators, and parents, emphasizing that Egypt’s educated and aware youth are the nation’s hope and its engine toward the future.

Dr. Badrawi concluded his remarks by expressing his joy at meeting the young people, praising their ability to ask questions, their courage in self-expression, and the quality of their thinking. He described them as a source of pride for their schools and their community, and a source of pride for all of Egypt. He affirmed that Egypt is a great country that deserves from all of us dedication and continuous effort to elevate its status and raise its flag high.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Hossam Badrawi and Dr. Salma Bakry honored the organizers of the competition, as well as the winning provincial schools, in an enthusiastic atmosphere filled with happiness and appreciation.

Dr. Hossam Badrawi

He is a politician, intellect, and prominent physician. He is the former head of the Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine Cairo University. He conducted his post graduate studies from 1979 till 1981 in the United States. He was elected as a member of the Egyptian Parliament and chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Parliament from 2000 till 2005. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Dr. Hossam supported the Tamarod movement in its beginning and he declared that toppling the Brotherhood was a must and a pressing risk that had to be taken few months prior to the June 30 revolution and confirmed that the army would support the legitimacy given by the people
