Egypt in my mind – written and penned by Hossam Badrawi

The answers to the question “What will life look like in the future?” Either they are overwhelmed with optimism about the technical and scientific progress of humanity, or, on the contrary, answers steeped in melancholy anticipate the spread of the current misery experienced by humanity from the point of view of some, in new forms, and sometimes a third look carelessly, to drown societies in the moment, snapshot and needs of the day.
The opinion of scientists is usually built on the basis of exploring the future in the context of what is available to us today in terms of technologies and sciences on the one hand..and the speed of their development on the other hand…that is, deductive paths through which a predictive view of the future can be built.
What will we see next? And what does the future hold for us?
Egypt is a time in the minds of many whose entrance is soft power, which is Umm Kulthum, Rami and Al-Sunbati, Abdel-Wahhab, Abdel-Halim, Naguib El-Rihani, Farid and Bayram, and other stars of beautiful, sophisticated art, even if they are not Egyptian.
Some see Egypt at the time from the perspective of the culture whose foundations were laid by Taha Hussein, Akkad, Lotfi Al-Sayyid, Ahmed Shawky, Hafez Ibrahim, Al-Hakim, Ihsan Abdel-Qudous, Youssef Al-Sibai, Zaki Najeeb Mahmoud, Naguib Mahfouz, Muhammad Abdo and others who built an era that made the people’s conscience and enlightened the minds..
Some will see Egypt’s time through political eyes, and say it is Abdel Nasser, Sadat, Saad Zaghloul, King Farouk, Mustafa Kamel, Ahmed Orabi, Muhammad Ali, and the Renaissance.
Many will jump back thousands of years and say that Egypt is the cradle of civilization, the beginning of monotheism, the pyramids, greatness and history. They will mention Ramesses, Akhenaten, the Library of Alexandria, Isis, Osiris, Ra and Thoth.
Some will mention Coptic Egypt and Islamic Egypt and their mighty influence on the two religions.
Some will tell you immediately, “Egypt is the mother of the world,” and remain silent and do not know where the saying that has become entrenched in the conscience came from.
I found that Egypt in the past is associated in the mind with people, places, and events, without details…but they come together to paint a picture that we are all proud of.
Egypt today, unfortunately, in the minds of its inhabitants, is negative in existence, weak in influence, and lacks resourcefulness, and the hopes of its youth revolve around the desire to emigrate to the source of wealth in the east, or a request for scientific status and respect for rights in the west, and about finding a job and housing.
Egypt is being pulled back and underdevelopment by an extremist Salafist movement, and a fanatical Brotherhood movement that mixes religion with politics and a movement that claims civilization while it is otherwise.
As for when we think about Egypt tomorrow, we must understand that its future will be affected by the future of the whole world, whether we like it or not.
Will the Egyptian people be a partner in making this future, or just a future and follower only of its outcomes?!
And how will the reception of evolution, the inevitable? Is it positive and partnership, or is it negative transmission and imitation?!
With the continuation of the pace of scientific creativity, change will continue in the world to bring humans, and us with them, to the unimaginable, and many jobs today will shrink. The natural is replaced by the industrial, and a class of a new type may emerge from it, dividing societies into masters and slaves.
The future of the world will change the forms of agriculture, industry, and the way of life, and the features of traditional wealth will change to new forms, and opportunities will arise that were not available to young people, and the usual will disappear..
A future we can see when our children and grandchildren acquire skills in which we are amateurs and they are professionals.
It seems to me that the revolutions of information technology and biotechnology are now the greatest challenges of the human race since its existence, and the greatest opportunity for it and for us at the same time.
And I fear that this development, using artificial intelligence, could create digital dictatorships that humans have never known before, with power concentrated in the hands of small elites that transcend the traditional borders of states in their historical form, and leave most of the world’s citizens, suffering from exploitation or being thrown into the trash.
The future of Egypt will be part of that, whether we like it or not, and the experience of history says that we, as a collective force, have to decide where Egypt will be?
We have to prepare ourselves to be a maker of this future, to be good recipients of its outcomes and active participants in its events. I see an existential battle that humanity will wage, and Egypt is part of it, and you could be one of its pioneers.
My questions to the dialogue groups that I chose revolved around their dreams. There are those who drag us into a whirlwind of need and destitution, poverty, ignorance and complaints, so that we cannot even dream.
And there are those who push us to dream of a different future, but rather to achieve our dreams with positivity and determination if we know and document them.
I am concerned that there are those among us who say to children and young people, dream within the limits of what you can achieve…
Which I don’t agree with and I don’t like it.
There is a difference between a dream and a feasibility study
Whatever the mind imagines can be achieved as long as it comes to mind in the first place.
The beauty of dreams and imagination is that 1 + 1 does not necessarily equal 2, but rather it can equal 4 and 8.
And this is the case when I think about Egypt tomorrow. It is not only feasibility studies and mathematical operations, and an analogy with the capabilities of the current snapshot in which we have reached our lowest levels.
I told them: Egypt is great and carries the genes of an accumulated civilization, and its people, with all their apparent patience and servility, are capable of changing course at defining moments in history.
They told me: we don’t see that!
I said: Egypt has a great human wealth in number and value, young in age, young people. This is a huge wealth capable of learning, training, acquiring knowledge and creating opportunities.
They told me: You have been saying the same thing for years and you do not apply what you say.
I said: I believe that building the Egyptian personality that is self-confident, proud of its past and present, and who has hope for its future is in our hands.
One decade changes a lot.
You are Egypt’s potential strength, and Egypt’s hope in facing all challenges.
To the north, we have the most beautiful beaches of the White Sea, and to the east, the unparalleled beaches of the Red Sea.

Egypt has a wealth of gas under its land and in the depths of its seas. Egypt has mineral wealth in its lands, which are being discovered now and we did not know of their existence before.
Egypt has the largest commercial market in the Middle East, a power that attracts investment and opens horizons.
Egypt has a bright sun most of the year, well-known wind resources, and can produce clean energy that suffices itself and Europe as well.
Egypt possesses a cultural storehouse in the genes of its people, and latent capabilities in its youth and elders that do not need to be released except to clear the rust from it through education, culture and the arts.
My words are not slogans, but they are scientific and have reference, methodology, and possibility.
However, creativity and innovation do not happen except within the framework of freedom, and get lost in the midst of chaos and annihilate terror and stagnation of thought.
The true wealth of Egypt, throughout history, is in its citizens.
Made by civilization are the Egyptians,
And those who started the enlightenment in the modern era in all the Middle East are the Egyptians
We must not allow the loss of our most important treasures.
And they are our children and youth, whether they are extremists of thought
Or reactionary behavior or absence of values
or unacceptably low level of education
Sometimes I see the limitations of dreams, because everyone is immersed in the challenges of the moment, and the problems of obtaining the base of the pyramid of needs in terms of food, drink, housing, and safety.
However, I see a different future, I see our children and youth innovators and creators freely, I see the people of Egypt living extended in its geography, perennial to its deserts
preserving its heritage.
I see the end of poverty, in wealth and in intellect.
I see a green Egypt integrated with Africa and the world. I see the youth of Egypt possessing hope.
Aspiring for happiness, using the technologies of the times, and embracing the values of freedom, honesty, integrity, accuracy and efficiency.
Adhering to his rights, appreciating the beauty around him
Respectful to the different, open minded.
Can my dream come true!!!
I may appear to some to be naive or to seek a virtuous city when I say that, but I am a man of optimistic genes…and I see the best in people…and I see beauty around me in every action and place…not from failing to see ugliness and evil.
But this is my free will to choose…
What do we need to achieve this? We need greater efficiency in managing the state, an efficiency that must not be compromised, and a choice for the best.
periodic renewal of blood, respect for knowledge and scholars,
And raising the ceiling of dreams, Egypt is a great nation and it deserves…..
