At the invitation of Ms. Sherine Helmy, President of the Rotary Club 6 October, and Dr. Nermin Nadim, Head of the Public Image Committee at Rotary 6 October and General Coordinator of the seminar, a discussion seminar was held yesterday, Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Bibliotheca Sheikh Zayed.
The seminar, titled “Women Between Right and Wrong,” addressed various issues that have sparked debate regarding the status of women in Eastern societies, and the challenges they face due to patriarchal tendencies and misunderstandings of the purposes of Sharia law.
During the discussion, Dr. Badrawi expressed his view of women as mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and granddaughters—fundamental to life, and a source of energy and creativity. He strongly opposed the notion that women are secondary to men, emphasizing that masculinity is a trait, not a gender; it can be possessed by anyone who embodies its qualities, male or female. Likewise, chivalry is a trait that may be held by men.
Dr. Badrawi also voiced his support for amending certain legal texts that unjustly affect women, such as the “House of Obedience,” stressing that any change in Egypt is primarily a political decision.
On stage alongside Dr. Badrawi were Ms. Sherine Helmy, President of the Rotary Club 6 October; writer Ms. Rania El-Beshbishi; and lawyer Ms. Maha Abu Bakr, whose understanding of the spirit and letter of the law impressed Dr. Badrawi.
The seminar was interactive and enriching, filled with constructive ideas and mature understanding of women’s status and influence in society.
The event concluded with attendees exchanging commemorative photos in an atmosphere of warmth, love, and respect.
