After thousands of years of civilizational progress, an ancient yet ever-renewing virus still dominates human minds \u2014 a virus called fanaticism<\/strong>, whether ethnic or religious.<\/p>\n

Despite humanity\u2019s journey from caves to space, despite building civilizations and launching scientific and technological revolutions, we find ourselves still prisoners of this old, mutating virus \u2014 using modern tools of military might, oppressive authority, and the absence of a collective moral conscience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is not a biological virus like the plague or COVID-19 \u2014 but a far deadlier epidemic: the epidemic of fanaticism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Multifaceted Epidemic<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This virus disguises itself under many banners, but its essence is one:<\/p>\n

    In America<\/strong>, it manifests in leaders who exploit evangelical Christian fundamentalism to inflame division.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    In Israel<\/strong>, it appears in the form of Netanyahu\u2019s Zionism \u2014 justifying exclusion and domination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    In the Arab world<\/strong>, it takes the shape of extremist Sunni fundamentalism, confining religion to eternal jihad with a weapon of intellectual narrowness and dogmatism.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    In Iran<\/strong>, it emerges through clerics who turn faith into a political tool of control.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    In Afghanistan<\/strong>, it shows its ugliest face in the oppression of women and the denial of social freedom in the name of religion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Despite differing slogans, the root is the same<\/strong>: a supremacist urge that views itself as the absolute truth \u2014 and sees the other as an enemy to be crushed, excluded, or imprisoned.<\/p>\n

    Symptoms of the Disease<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Like biological epidemics, this one has clear symptoms:<\/p>\n

      Dividing people into \u201cus\u201d and \u201cthem.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Justifying violence and killing in the name of the sacred.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Humanity has faced the plague, the Spanish flu, and COVID-19 \u2014 and survived them all through science. But the epidemic of fanaticism<\/strong> attacks collective consciousness itself \u2014 spawning civil wars, global terrorism, ethnic cleansing, and political tyranny.<\/p>\n

      It drags humanity back to the caves \u2014 even as it reaches outer space.<\/p>\n

      The Cure and the Vaccine<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      There is no vaccine<\/strong> for this virus except reason<\/strong> \u2014 no cure except justice, rationality, and the freedom of thought and self-criticism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      The remedy lies in education<\/strong> \u2014 in teaching new generations that diversity is wealth, not a curse. It lies in justice<\/strong>, by eliminating class inequality that fuels hatred.<\/p>\n

      It lies in building bridges instead of walls<\/strong>, and reviving the humanity of man before any creed.<\/p>\n

      The gravest threat we face today is not poverty or climate change alone, but this ideological virus<\/strong> \u2014 hiding behind the masks of religion and nationalism, yet waging war on both reason and compassion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      History teaches us that epidemics pass \u2014 and that the mind can always invent vaccines. But survival depends on realizing that humanity is one body<\/strong>, and any cell infected with fanaticism can spread disease to the whole.<\/p>\n

      Let us awaken, then \u2014 before this virus becomes the guillotine that severs the arteries of the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Returning to the Core: Political Systems and the Silence of the Elite<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      At the root of this crisis lie political structures<\/strong>, the monopoly of power<\/strong>, and the silence of intellectual elites<\/strong> in societies.
      We must think deeply about how to escape this human predicament.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Fanaticism at the United Nations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      The speech by U.S. President Donald Trump<\/strong> before the United Nations General Assembly<\/strong> in September 2025<\/strong> was a vivid manifestation of this epidemic.<\/p>\n

      He attacked the UN itself, belittled international cooperation, and called for nations to close their borders and expel strangers \u2014 a perfect embodiment of fanaticism\u2019s core: dividing the world into us<\/em> and them.<\/em><\/p>\n

He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood.
