Our vision for education emphasizes the importance of developing young people\u200f\u2019\u200fs \u200epersonalities, something that can only happen through engagement, cultural exchange, \u200eart, and hobbies, coupled with the joy of learning and the guidance of mentors who \u200eunderstand their roles. University theater is a meeting point for the arts, where young \u200epeople learn to adhere to strict rules while expressing creativity, reaching higher levels of \u200eproficiency, respecting expertise, mastering language, public speaking, and interacting \u200ewith audiences. They practice the freedom of movement in all its beauty and elegance. \u200eThis is how education aligns with its true vision. We show that the goals of education can \u200ebe achieved without burdening the state, simply by permitting and providing a supportive \u200eenvironment without interference, while offering expert mentorship in a flexible manner. All \u200ethis takes place with joy, sophistication, and smiles. This is what we achieve in the \u200eUniversity Theater Forum for young university students\u2014a youth initiative organized and \u200eprepared by their own minds and hands, even bearing some of the costs themselves. Oh, \u200ethe beauty of Egypt when you allow your youth the freedom to express and give them \u200espace to succeed. We embark on a week of work, enjoyment, innovation, and creativity \u200estarting now.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The forum this year is held under the slogan \u200e\u200f\u201c\u200fCreate\u2026Unleash,\u201d from October 19 to 25, \u200e\u200e2024. The esteemed artist Fouad El-Mohandes has been chosen as the symbol and icon \u200eof the sixth edition, honoring his artistic contributions and the joy he brought us throughout \u200ehis career. This forum has attracted a large number of students from Egyptian, Arab, and \u200einternational universities around the world, with 26 countries from Europe, Latin America, \u200eAfrica, and most Arab countries participating this year.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The forum includes many events and competitions, with more than 765 participants from \u200evarious nationalities. Among them is a theatrical competition involving 11 plays from \u200euniversities in Romania, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, France, Oman, Iraq, Syria, as \u200ewell as Cairo, Helwan, Ain Shams, Galala University, and the Academy of Arts in Egypt. \u200eThe judging panel includes Dr. Rania Fathallah (Egypt), Professor Philippe Giget (France), \u200edirector Nejar Hasib, artist Shamal Amin (Austria), and critic Asmaa Hegazy (Egypt). \u200eThere will also be six specialized international workshops on theater arts: acting, body \u200eexpression, African dance, theater directing, improvisation, and puppet making and \u200emovement, alongside a workshop for people with special needs. A total of 130 students \u200efrom Egyptian and Arab universities will participate in these workshops.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A roundtable will be organized to discuss advancing theater arts at universities, featuring a \u200edistinguished group of researchers and artists, with an expected participation of 157 \u200estudents from Egyptian, Arab, and international universities.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We hope the Cairo International University Theater Forum achieves all its objectives as it \u200ehas since the first edition in October 2018. University theater is the theater of beginnings \u200eand one of the most important sources of art and culture in any society. It stands out for \u200eits creativity, the enthusiasm of university students, and their determination to achieve \u200eself-fulfillment. Its creative significance lies in being ever-renewing, diverse in \u200eperspectives, and rich in knowledge, making it an endless source of innovation. The most \u200ebeautiful aspect of the forum is the cultural, artistic, and intellectual exchange between \u200epeople from around the world, blending the joy and positive energy of youth with the \u200ebeauty and expertise of theater arts. The friendships formed and the love nurtured \u200ethroughout this week in the heart of Egypt, the mother of the world, are priceless.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The young people of my country prove their ability to organize and prepare with \u200eprofessionalism, even though all are volunteers. The forum also underscores Egypt\u200f\u2019\u200fs \u200estability and its ability to host such international youth events, bringing significant media, \u200etourism, and artistic gains to the country.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The sixth edition is held under the auspices of the Prime Minister, with partial support from \u200ethe Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Tourism Promotion \u200eAuthority. The General Authority for Cultural Palaces will host the opening and closing \u200eceremonies as well as many events and competitions. The youth will organize a tour for all \u200eparticipating delegations to visit the Museum of Folk Arts and the Great Egyptian \u200eMuseum.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I still await greater attention from the state for this respectable youth effort, which \u200esurpasses what many governments do for their countries. In truth, Minister of Culture \u200eAhmed Honored has lived up to my expectations in his support, as has Minister of Youth \u200eand Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The forum faces a challenge stemming from the tragic bus accident involving Galala \u200eUniversity, which resulted in the loss of several students\u200f\u2019 \u200flives. This has emotionally \u200eaffected everyone, and the university may refrain from celebrations in solidarity. While I \u200eunderstand, the university withdrawing its support for the forum just one day before the \u200edelegations arrive has placed the youth organizers in a difficult position, requiring state \u200esupport in other ways.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Over 700 young men and women from around the world are participating in the forum, \u200erepresenting their countries through theatrical performances and artistic expressions. I \u200ehope Egyptian television channels will cover the forum\u200f\u2019\u200fs events despite their focus on \u200egovernment conferences. Youth from Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, \u200eOman, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE are amazing and inspiring. Our own \u200eyouth from Nubia, Alexandria, and Mansoura, who volunteer, are the pride of their \u200ecountry. Students from Fayoum, Ain Shams, Mansoura, and Helwan universities are \u200eoffering high-quality art and performances that captivate the mind.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We need more support and attention to ensure the continuity of the forum and its \u200eenlightening mission, which places no burden on the state but rather uplifts it. I salute and \u200eraise my hat to the Egyptian Artists Foundation for Culture and Arts, a non-profit \u200eorganization led by the wonderful young director Amr Qabeel, who is a credit to any \u200einstitution he works with. The foundation is one of the civil society organizations dedicated \u200eto culture and the arts, with his determined colleague, Samar Saeed, who is always \u200esmiling and working effectively and efficiently.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I am honored to serve as a patron and spiritual father to these young people over the \u200eyears. They have always been, and continue to be, a source of inspiration, pride, and \u200esacrifice of their time and money to ensure the success of the forum and cover much of \u200ethe delegation\u200f\u2019\u200fs costs. I am also honored to lead the forum\u200f\u2019\u200fs supreme committee, which \u200eincludes director Amr Qabeel, the forum\u200f\u2019\u200fs founder and president, Dr. Samar Saeed, the \u200eforum\u200f\u2019\u200fs secretary-general, the esteemed artist Tarek El-Dessouki, the creative writer \u200eFatima Naoot, and Dr. Amal Sadiq Afifi. They have regularly met under the \u200e\u200f\u201c\u200fSpreading \u200eCulture and Knowledge Association,\u201d which I am honored to lead. The organizing \u200ecommittee is made up of 27 passionate young men and women, who have made great \u200evoluntary efforts out of their love for theater and still have many dreams they are \u200edetermined to realize. Do they not deserve our applause and respect for their efforts to \u200erestore Cairo to its historical status as the capital of the arts?\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court.
