Mohamed Lotfy the title of \u200eMember of the Most Excellent \u200eOrder of the British Empire \u200e\u200e(MBE) in recognition of his \u200eoutstanding contributions to \u200eadvancing education on an \u200einternational level.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When a distinguished son of \u200ethis great nation is honored \u200ewith such a prestigious \u200einternational recognition from<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
the United Kingdom, we must \u200epause\u2014not only to \u200econgratulate him, but to reLlect \u200eon the inspiring story behind \u200ethis moment. This time, the \u200eprotagonist is Dr. Mohamed \u200eLotfy, President of the British \u200eUniversity in Egypt (BUE). And \u200eto me, he is more than a \u200ecolleague or a friend\u2014he is a \u200eson in whom I take great pride \u200eas I watch him lead, succeed, \u200eand make a real impact.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On the day Dr. Lotfy receives<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
this royal honor from Britain, I \u200efeel, as a friend and as someone \u200ewho supported him, that this is \u200emore than a personal \u200eachievement. It is a testament \u200eto how a national vision can \u200eadvance conLidently onto the \u200eglobal stage.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
He is a man who has combined \u200ehis deep-rooted identity with \u200eworld-class academic \u200eprofessionalism, returning \u200ehome to create meaningful \u200echange\u2014and his journey is<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

unquestionably one worth \u200etelling.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dr. Mohamed Lotfy holds a \u200eBachelor’s degree in Economics \u200eand Political Science and a \u200eMaster’s degree in Information \u200eSystems from Alexandria \u200eUniversity, as well as a PhD in \u200eSystems Thinking from the \u200eUniversity of Sunderland in the \u200eUnited Kingdom.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He began his academic journey \u200eas a faculty member at the<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Graduate School of Alexandria \u200eUniversity before moving to the \u200eUK, where he held multiple \u200esenior positions\u2014including \u200eVice President for International \u200eAffairs at Cardiff Metropolitan \u200eUniversity and Senior Envoy at \u200eCoventry University. He also \u200ebecame the Lirst Egyptian- \u200eBritish academic to join the \u200eboard of the Magna Charta \u200eObservatory in Bologna.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He has managed and overseen \u200estrategic alliances in over 25\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
countries, including high-level \u200egovernmental projects between \u200eeducational and industrial \u200einstitutions.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Dr. Lotfy has served as an \u200einternational advisor to higher \u200eeducation institutions in the \u200eUK, including the Leadership \u200eFoundation, and as Vice \u200ePresident of the Arab- \u200eEuropean Leadership Network \u200ein Higher Education (ARELEN). \u200eHe was awarded an honorary \u200edoctorate from the University<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

of Sunderland in 2023 in \u200erecognition of his work in \u200einternational education and \u200euniversity program \u200edevelopment.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dr. Lotfy believes that \u200eeducation must embrace \u200ecritical thinking over rote \u200ememorization, and that \u200euniversities should be \u200eplatforms for creativity and for \u200enurturing future leaders. Since \u200etaking ofLice as President of \u200eBUE, he has consistently<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

emphasized that achieving \u200esuccess abroad should \u200eempower excellence at home.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When I nominated him to lead \u200ethe British University in Egypt, \u200eI was betting on his intellect \u200eand experience. I trusted in his \u200eability to build an academic \u200emodel that is both globally \u200eoriented and deeply rooted in \u200eEgypt\u2014and he succeeded. He \u200emade me proud, and even \u200eprouder of his wife, Mrs. Heba, \u200ewho stands by his side,\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

supports him, and uplifts him \u200ewith strength and grace.\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Since becoming BUE President \u200ein 2021, Dr. Lotfy has launched \u200ea new vision based on \u200eexcellence, openness, and \u200eservice to humanity. One of his \u200equotes, which I deeply agree \u200ewith, is:\u200e<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court.
