The Benben<\/em> pyramid (Benben) is not a pyramid in the architectural sense like the Pyramids of Giza, but rather a sacred symbol in ancient Egyptian theology. It holds a profound cosmic and spiritual meaning and is considered one of the oldest religious symbols in Egypt.<\/p>\n

\n

The Secret and History of the Benben<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cBenben\u201d is the name of a small, pyramid-shaped stone that was worshiped in the temple of the god Ra in Heliopolis (modern-day Ain Shams).<\/p>\n

It is believed to represent the first solid mound that emerged from the primordial waters of chaos (Nun<\/em>) at the moment of creation according to the Heliopolitan doctrine.<\/p>\n

From this stone, the god Ra-Atum<\/strong> emerged to create the world, according to the Heliopolis creation myth.<\/p>\n

\n

Symbolism of the Pyramid Shape<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Benben stone is the origin of the pyramid shape. It represents a \u201cfrozen sunbeam\u201d or the \u201cfirst light,\u201d which is why it was connected to solar worship.<\/p>\n

The name \u201cBenben\u201d is probably derived from the ancient Egyptian verb ben<\/em>, meaning \u201cto rise\u201d or \u201cto shine.\u201d<\/p>\n

I wondered: What is the connection between the Benben and temples and pyramids?<\/strong>
Research shows that the tops of obelisks and burial pyramids were crowned with a pyramidion<\/strong>, a miniature Benben stone symbolizing the union of the soul with the sun.<\/p>\n

The Great Pyramid of Giza was once crowned with a huge gilded Benben stone, believed to symbolize a spiritual gateway through which the Pharaoh\u2019s soul ascended to unite with Ra.<\/p>\n

\n

Philosophical and Spiritual Meaning<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Benben represents the moment when order emerged from chaos\u2014the first point of creation.
It symbolizes:<\/p>\n

    the cosmic mind<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    formation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    creative energy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    It is also said to represent the center of consciousness in the universe. Later philosophies\u2014Hermetic, Gnostic, and even some Masonic symbols\u2014echo its meaning.<\/p>\n

    A number of Benben stones survive in the Egyptian Museum, the most famous belonging to the pyramid of Amenemhat III of the Twelfth Dynasty.<\/p>\n

    But Benben is not merely a stone.
    In ancient Egyptian belief, it was the \u201ceye that witnessed creation,\u201d the first seed of light, honored like a deity. Symbolically, it is the point from which everything emanates\u2014and to which everything returns.<\/p>\n

    \n

    Symbols of Egyptian Consciousness<\/strong><\/h1>\n

    Reflections on Creation, Vision, and Renewal<\/em><\/p>\n

    Discovering the meaning of the Benben stone inspired me to include this reflection in this chapter of the book:<\/p>\n

    \n

    In great civilizations, ideas are not written only in letters\u2014they are carved into symbols.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    In ancient Egypt, symbols were not decorative ornaments or funerary designs. They were a secret language between the human and the cosmos, between the visible and the unseen.<\/p>\n

    The ancient Egyptian created a symbolic system so profound that lines and shapes expressed what entire philosophies struggle to articulate.<\/p>\n

    At the heart of this system shine five symbols\u2014like stars on the map of the soul:
    Benben, the Eye of Horus, the Ankh, Osiris, and Ma\u2019at.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    I am not here to decode these symbols, but to reflect on what they still say to us today\u2014children of modernity, torn between knowledge and illusion.<\/p>\n

    \n

    Benben \u2013 The First Awareness<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    In the beginning, there was nothing:
    No earth, no sky, no god.<\/p>\n

    Then a small stone emerged from the chaotic waters of Nun<\/em>, rising above the surface as if saying:
    \u201cHere I am.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This is Benben\u2014the first solid thing in existence, the first idea, the first awareness.<\/p>\n

    Benben is not a stone; it is the origin of form and the origin of light.<\/p>\n

    From it, Ra emerged.
    From it, creation began.<\/p>\n

    It is a symbol of the idea that we ourselves are born from a single point\u2014
    a thought,
    a decision,
    a moment of awareness.<\/p>\n

    Every time we rise from inner chaos, a new \u201cBenben\u201d is born inside us.<\/p>\n

    \n

    The Eye of Horus \u2013 Complete Vision Through Pain<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    When Horus\u2019s eye was torn during his battle with Set, it was not lost.
    It was restored\u2014becoming a symbol not of sight alone, but of vision after suffering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The Eye of Horus is not simply the eye of a god\u2014it is a mirror of the human journey of consciousness:<\/p>\n

      To be broken, then restored.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      To go through experience, learn from it, and see afterward in a different way.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The eye is divided into six parts, each representing a sense or mental faculty.
      It reminds us that knowledge does not come from reading alone but from embracing life.<\/p>\n

      \n

      The Ankh \u2013 Key of Life and Its Hidden Balance<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Perhaps no Egyptian symbol is more famous than the Ankh<\/em>\u2014the key with the upper loop. But the Ankh represents not just physical life, but life in all its dimensions:
      body, soul, time, and continuity.<\/p>\n

      The Ankh resembles a standing human figure with raised head\u2014a harmony between the upper and lower, between the circle (mind) and the staff (body).<\/p>\n

      It symbolizes inner alignment and the ability not merely to live \u201clonger\u201d but to live deeper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      It was always carried in the hands of the gods, as if life is something given<\/em>, not taken.<\/p>\n

      It reminds us that life is not only a \u201cright,\u201d but a trust we must carry well.<\/p>\n

      \n

      Osiris \u2013 Death as the Beginning of Renewal<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Every civilization tries to understand death.
      But the ancient Egyptian did more than understand it\u2014he turned it into a cosmic drama, whose central figure was Osiris.<\/p>\n

      Osiris was killed, dismembered, and resurrected.<\/p>\n

      This symbolism is not about distant gods\u2014it is about every human journey.<\/p>\n

      We break,
      we disappear,
      we are forgotten,
      and then we return\u2014transformed.<\/p>\n

      Osiris teaches that death is not an end but a stage of transformation.
      What \u201cdies\u201d within us does not vanish\u2014it becomes new energy inside us.<\/p>\n

      In an age terrified of extinction, Osiris reminds us that rebirth does not wait for a distant heaven\u2014it happens every time we rise after a fall.<\/p>\n

      \n

      Ma\u2019at \u2013 Balance of the Cosmos and the Human Conscience<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Ma\u2019at, goddess of truth and justice, sits with a single feather on her head.<\/p>\n

      Just one feather\u2014placed on the scale on the Day of Judgment, against the heart of the deceased.<\/p>\n

      Ma\u2019at is not merely a goddess\u2014she is an abstract principle governing the world:<\/p>\n

      order,
      balance,
      truth,
      harmony.<\/p>\n

      Ma\u2019at means having a light heart\u2014not because you are na\u00efve, but because you are sincere.<\/p>\n

      She reminds us that truth is not only what we say but what we are<\/em>.<\/p>\n

      In a world saturated with deception, Ma\u2019at whispers:
      \u201cWeigh your heart every evening. Ask: Is it still light?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n

      Symbols That Breathe Within Us<\/strong><\/h1>\n

      These five symbols are not relics of a vanished religion.
      They are a profound symbolic structure that still lives within our collective consciousness.<\/p>\n

      They are not inscriptions on temple walls but living signs on the walls of the soul.<\/p>\n

      When you begin\u2014you are Benben.
      When you see after pain\u2014you are the Eye of Horus.
      When you live with wisdom\u2014you are the Ankh.
      When you fall and rise\u2014you are Osiris.
      When you weigh yourself by what is truer than words\u2014you stand before Ma\u2019at.<\/p>\n

      The ancient Egyptian understood something simple and complex at once:<\/p>\n

      That the universe is not only matter, but symbol.

He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. As a politician, Dr. Hossam Badrawi was known for his independent stances. His integrity won the consensus of all people from various political trends. During the era of former president Hosni Mubarak he was called The Rationalist in the National Democratic Party NDP because his political calls and demands were consistent to a great extent with calls for political and democratic reform in Egypt. He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court.
