Before you lies a book that documents a critical stage in the journey of a nation and the path of a man\u2014a nation that, over the past twenty years, has witnessed momentous events that threatened its very existence as never before, and a man who never ceased to give, whose rich career left its mark in every field through which he chose to serve his country and humanity.<\/p>\n

Fate decreed that his path would intersect with a decisive era in Egypt\u2019s history, as a constant presence at major turning points over the past two decades\u2014through what he advocated, warned against, or actively participated in.<\/p>\n

He is Professor Dr. Hossam Badrawy<\/strong>\u2014the distinguished physician, thinker, and reformist politician\u2014one of the few in Egypt who truly possesses vision<\/em>. What sets him apart is that his vision is neither rigid theory nor impractical idealism, but rather a vision drawn from lived experience and from scientific, humanitarian, and political engagement with Egyptian reality\u2014in medicine, education, health, sports, politics, and their interconnected fields of action, research, and study.<\/p>\n

This book may appear to be about a person\u2014but in truth, it is about a nation.
It may seem to speak of the past\u2014but in reality, it speaks of the future.<\/p>\n

The book consists of four chapters<\/strong>, documenting Dr. Hossam Badrawy\u2019s journey and recording his positions and views on decisive historical events and turning points over the past twenty years. These include the end of the Mubarak era, the January 25 Revolution, the June 30 Revolution, and Egypt\u2019s entry into the era of the New Republic, as well as aspects of his vision for political reform, educational development, and social justice.<\/p>\n

Chapter One: \u201cThe Mubarak Regime \u2013 Years of Experience and Lessons\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Drawing on the wisdom that \u201cthose who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it,\u201d<\/em> this chapter examines the Mubarak era, which\u2014though now in the past\u2014continues to cast a powerful shadow over both present and future developments.<\/p>\n

The chapter discusses key turning points and critical mistakes committed by the ruling authority, with Dr. Hossam Badrawy present as a unique model representing reformist opposition ideas from within the corridors of the ruling National Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

Chapter Two: \u201cJanuary 25 \u2013 Revolution and Conspiracy\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This chapter addresses the new phase Egypt entered with the outbreak of the January 25 Revolution and the critical events that accompanied it\u2014some of which rose to the level of conspiracy\u2014along with the dangers that compromised the revolution\u2019s purity.<\/p>\n

The importance of studying Dr. Badrawy\u2019s testimony in this chapter stems not only from his prominence as a political thinker, but from the fact that he occupied the highest political position in Egypt at the most critical moment<\/strong>, serving as Secretary-General of the National Democratic Party from February 5 to February 10, 2011<\/strong>\u2014placing him at the heart of power during some of the most dangerous days of the revolution and making him an eyewitness to historical truths that remain partially concealed to this day.<\/p>\n

Chapter Three: \u201cThe Muslim Brotherhood \u2013 Tyranny in the Name of Religion\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This chapter documents the Muslim Brotherhood\u2019s rise to power, confirming Dr. Hossam Badrawy\u2019s earlier warning during the January Revolution:<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocracy without a disciplined system that ensures equal opportunities becomes a theatrical performance that manipulates people in favor of active dark forces\u2014those with money, power, influence, or superior organization\u2014allowing them to win elections at the expense of the most qualified. What if those forces cloak themselves in religion to mobilize support?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is precisely the model followed by the Muslim Brotherhood after the fall of the Mubarak regime. The chapter examines Dr. Badrawy\u2019s assessment of their rule, their path to power, and the major mistakes they committed during their single year in office\u2014ending in their downfall.<\/p>\n

Chapter Four: \u201cAspects of Dr. Badrawy\u2019s Vision: Social Justice, Reform, and Educational Development\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Through a collection of articles, this chapter moves from reading the past to anticipating the future. If political reform is the gateway to economic, social, and security reform, then crafting a future vision is the only way out of the vicious cycles and failed experiments imposed on the people\u2014experiments that either drag society backward or keep it stagnant.<\/p>\n

The Story of the Book<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As told by journalist Ahmed Mubarak<\/em><\/p>\n

The story began with the documentary film \u201cCorridors of the Palace.\u201d<\/strong> A few months after January 25, I was working on a documentary to record the 18 days from the start of the protests until President Mubarak\u2019s resignation\u2014the first film of its kind to dramatize Mubarak\u2019s final days.<\/p>\n

Among the names suggested for interviews was Dr. Hossam Badrawy<\/strong>, the last Secretary-General of the National Democratic Party (February 5\u201310, 2011).<\/p>\n

I found his phone number in Al-Masry Al-Youm\u2019s<\/em> archives and called\u2014expecting no answer. To my surprise, a calm voice responded.<\/p>\n

That moment marked the beginning of a journey of discovery\u2014of a man marked by simplicity, openness, and rare political credibility.<\/p>\n

Our meeting revealed behind-the-scenes state management, his efforts to connect revolutionary youth with Mubarak, the release of Wael Ghonim, the conditions under which he accepted party leadership, and the reasons for his resignation.<\/p>\n

What struck us most was his exceptional acceptance across opposing political camps\u2014so much so that he sought to turn political \u201cfantasy\u201d into reality.<\/p>\n

As I researched further, I found that many of his warnings had come true\u2014on political reform, education, military intervention, and the danger of religious rule.<\/p>\n

From this realization emerged the idea to document his journey in a book\u2014not merely as a biography, but as a record of a decisive national phase<\/strong>, and a roadmap for the future<\/strong>, rooted in human development through knowledge, innovation, and creativity.<\/p>\n

He was against extending the state of emergency and objected to the National Democratic Party's unilateral constitutional amendments during the January 25, 2011 revolution. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court. He played a very important political role when he defended, from the very first beginning of the revolution, the demonstrators' right to call for their demands. He called on the government to listen and respond to their demands. Consequently and due to Dr. Badrawi's popularity, Mubarak appointed him as the NDP Secretary General thus replacing the members of the Bureau of the Commission. During that time, Dr. Badrawi expressed his political opinion to Mubarak that he had to step down. He had to resign from the party after 5 days of his appointment on February 10 when he declared his political disagreement with the political leadership in dealing with the demonstrators who called for handing the power to the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, from the very first moment his stance was clear by rejecting a religion-based state which he considered as aiming to limit the Egyptians down to one trend. He considered deposed president Mohamed Morsi's decision to bring back the People's Assembly as a reinforcement of the US-supported dictatorship. He was among the first to denounce the incursion of Morsi's authority over the judicial authority, condemning the Brotherhood militias' blockade of the Supreme Constitutional Court.
